Atlantic Rowing Race 05 - La Gomera to Antigua - Four - 77 days

With no rowing experience and certainly no sea-going experience, I first took to the oars in ocean rowing boat, Calderdale, in 2003. I was joined by my mother, Sarah. 105 days later we became the worlds first mother and daughter to row an ocean, the UK's first female pair and my mum the first grandmother to row across the Atlantic. We recently picked up our Guinness World Record for it too.

In 2005 I founded Rowgirls.com an all female rowing team set to break the record for the fastest Atlantic crossing. Unfortunately we were struck by disaster an Jo our crewmate left the boat. The rudder fell off in the the worst weather in 200 yrs of recorded history and the boat was attacked by a shark. Claire Mills, Sue McMillan and I didn’t give up and we made it to Antigua 77 days later, becoming the first 3-handed boat to row any ocean.

I’m now a professional motivational speaker and I’m writing a book about the adventure, it’s due to be published later this year. I’ll annouce the date when I’ve got it. Gotta write the bloody thing first!
